Republicans Win Again.

With no end in site of the corruption stories swirling around the Ford family, we have come to the conclusion the Tennessee Democratic Party is not interested in winning the 2006 Senate Race.

Ford is tainted goods. He needs another decade in the House just to outlive the sins of his family. I don't see how the photos of him dancing with John Kerry will be helpful to him in a "Red" state either. Every story we see is bringing up the downfall of his father, the never ending corruption of his uncle and speculation into how far the apple really fell from the family tree.

We need a leader with experience that can speak to and for Tennessee. Harold Ford Jr. or Rosalind Kurita are not that person.

The Democratic Grassroots have all but given up hope - and rightfully so. We need somebody with some clout to get a hold of Congressman Davis and beg, otherwise our Senate seats will be Republican for at least 16 more years. It is that simple. An opportunity like this does not come along every day.

Allowing Harold Ford Jr. to carry the banner for the Democratic Party will further tarnish the party and will speed us down the path we are on which leads to political irrelevance. We are going to lose seats in the State House and Senate becasue of a few corrupt boneheads. We either get past it with a leader with proven credentials or we continue to tie ourselves to the political train wreck of the Ford family.

Junior could have ethics troubles of his own?

Congressman Harold Ford Jr. (D) of Tennessee who was recently “outed” at the number two traveler in the House paid for by special interests is afraid of reform. Blogging for Bryant noted the Christian Science Monitor on May 3rd reported on the story of the investigation of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and that the turmoil might be "also threatening to engulf other members of Congress, as opposition researchers for both parties plunge into member disclosure forms in search of lapses.”

The Monitor did retell a story that sounded eerily similar to Junior’s Uncle, State Senator John Ford:

“Congress has come a long way from the days when Sen. Daniel Webster penned an 1833 letter reminding banking interests that his "annual retainer" was due and important banking legislation was coming up in the US Senate.”

Junior was quoted in the article almost defending Tom Delay. "DeLay's ethics woes will have a chilling effect on congressional travel.”

Junior wants to have his travel and eat it too.

Lincoln Davis has real solutions

From the Lincoln Davis website:

Assessing our Efforts in the War on Terror

By Congressman Lincoln Davis

Being a Member of Congress, representing the Fourth Congressional District, affords me opportunities to visit areas of American interest around the world as an official of the U.S. government. These visits, known as CODEL's (congressional delegation) are helpful to us as elected officials in forming opinions and allow us to accurately report back to you on what we witness. I recently traveled to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center, Germany to meet with foreign leaders regarding upcoming Parliamentary elections and review reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan. I also had the opportunity to talk with soldiers in the field and visit with some wounded soldiers who have been transported to Germany for medical care and treatment.

I want to begin by saying we have the most capable, well trained, and caring soldiers in the world. Time and again our troops have answered the call to duty and have served our country with distinction. They should be honored to be known as members of the U.S. Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard.

Our delegation flew into the Pakistani capitol of Islamabad and after a briefing at the American Embassy we began our journey. Our first visit was with teachers and students aged 15-25 at a fundamentalist Islamic school called a Madrassa. Normally, westerners are not permitted in such schools, but we were welcomed with open arms.

We later met with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his cabinet to discuss relations and express the aspirations of our people. After our meeting with the Prime Minister we embarked on a three-hour drive to the ancient city of Peshawar, which borders Afghanistan. While in Peshawar we shared a friendly meal with Waziristan tribal leaders. Waziristan is the region in Pakistan where Osama Bin Laden is thought to be hiding. The area is known for its rugged terrain and walled cities, which usually shuns outsiders. During our meal we talked about the war in Afghanistan, the United States, and Osama Bin Laden. They expressed to us how sorrowful they were that 9/11 occurred and if they were to find Bin Laden they would kill him. However, they do not believe Bin Laden is in the Waziristan region.

We woke the following day, where we drove to the residence of the regional governor. Governor Shah and his military staff briefed us on military operations in the Waziristan region, which has resulted in the capture or death of hundreds of terrorists. A few hours and stops later we made it to the historic Khyber Pass, where after some difficulty, ended by a call from Governor Shah, we were permitted to enter Khyber Pass.

The Khyber Pass is one of the most important passes between Afghanistan and Pakistan. It has been a major trade route for centuries and has a long and often violent history. Conquering armies, such as Alexander the Great, have used the Khyber as an entry point for their invasions. A sign hanging over the trail reads, "Entry of foreigners is not permitted beyond this point." While in the area we helped lay bricks at a new school being built and later met with the Khyber Rifles, the Khyber Pass security force.

We departed Pakistan for the Afghani capitol of Kabul. We were the first delegation permitted to spend the night in Kabul since the start of the war and to meet with President Hamid Karzai since his inauguration. I left our meeting with President Karzai very impressed. He repeatedly expressed his and the Afghani people's appreciation for America and our soldiers. Karzai said, "Please congratulate the people of the United States on our success. We see our success as your success." He is a man of intellect, determination, and compassion.

After meeting with President Karzai we drove to Camp Phoenix, where the United States set up camp nearly three years ago as the base of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan. The duty of soldiers at Camp Phoenix is to train the Afghan National Army in an effort to ensure the country's security and self sufficiency, and to ensure that feuding warlords do not rise up against the newly established government. The soldiers there are also very actively involved in aiding the reconstruction efforts.

From Camp Phoenix we flew a board a CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter through the mountains to the Provisional Reconstruction Team. We witnessed first hand our troops working with Afghani forces where there seemed to be a genuine camaraderie between the two forces. We bunked down in individual "hooches" for the night. I later found out that we were one of a very few Members of Congress to be permitted to spend the night with the troops in a combat zone. I felt a great sense of privilege in being able to do so.

On our return flight back to the States we stopped to visit our wounded soldiers at Landstuhl Army Air Base in Germany. While at Landstuhl I was able to talk and express my admiration and appreciation for what they had done in defense of our country and ideals. All of them are brave and patriotic men and women.

There are a few general images and thoughts I left with. There is terrible poverty in Pakistan and Afghanistan, with well over 20% of households living in poverty. While driving through the mountains you could see thousands of huts built from mud and scrap metal. The locals we met with appeared committed to instituting a Democracy. Our soldiers in Afghanistan were in good shape and looked fit. We wished each of them a safe tour and God's blessings. Our wounded countrymen at Landstuhl Army Air Base have given us a part of themselves for a safer and more hospitable world. For that I say thank you and God Bless.

There is no doubt in my mind that our efforts are justified and noble as we continue our efforts to rid Afghanistan and the world of terrorists. I conclude by saying we need to focus more attention on hunting down Bin Laden and those left over from the Taliban regime. We must stay determined in our hunt of Bin Laden.

Davis Endorses Harold Ford Jr.

To say the least, we are highly disapointed. We hope this is a temporary measure for planning purposes while Harold continues to spiral downward. We aren't giving up hope.

Big Beginning for the Draft Davis movement.

In less than 24 hours, our new blog has received a lot of attention. We have been mentioned in a number Democratic and Republican blogs and newsletters, and must have even made the D.C. periodical National Journal's hotline.

I don't think that bodes well for Harold Ford Jr. It appears there is a great deal of interest in finding a viable candidate. Go Lincoln go!

Pro-Life Democrats Unveil Legislative Package to Reduce Abortions

by Steven ErteltLifeNews.com Editor

A national group of pro-life Democrats has joined pro-life Democratic members of Congress, adoption agencies and pregnancy centers unveil a package of legislation designed to significantly reduce abortion in the next 10 years.

Democrats for Life of America joined Reps. Tim Ryan (Ohio), Bart Stupak (Michigan) and Lincoln Davis (Tennessee) at a press conference Friday to announce the "95-10 Initiative" -- a plan to reduce abortions 95 percent in the next 10 years.

Kristen Day, director of DFLA, said the plan was "a legitimate policy initiative that will actually reduce the number of abortions." She said it "has been met favorably by both pro-life and pro-choice advocates and elected officials."

The initiative outlines 17 different policy programs designed to empower and promote women as well as protect unborn children. Some of those include a national toll-free number for pregnancy support, studying why women have abortions, funding daycare on college campuses, increasing funding for domestic violence programs, and making adoption tax credits permanent.
Day's group has several Congressional lawmakers on board with the idea, including Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson, the only pro-life Democrat in the Senate.

"The plan outlined today is a good first step to successfully reduce the rate of abortion by offering alternatives that promote family, promote adoption, and provide education and support for new mothers," Nelson said.

In the House, Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan said he would soon be introducing the policy package.
"This legislative initiative will communicate to pregnant women that the community is behind you to carry the baby to term. I am proud that the Democratic Party is supportive of this and that Democratic members are supportive," Ryan said.

One of the key components of the plan includes promoting adoption and Democrats for Life has lined up support from national adoption groups, including the National Council For Adoption.
"As provided for in this legislation, the time has come to make adoption tax credits permanent and to ensure that women with unplanned pregnancies receive timely counseling and accurate information about the positive option of adoption," NCFA president Tom Atwood said.
Kurt Entsminger, president of Care Net, a national group of more than 800 pregnancy centers, also backs the pro-life Democrats on their plan.

He said the initiative champions "an agenda that embraces the women facing an unplanned pregnancy and offers her support and critical information about positive alternatives to abortion."

Day said the goal of the plan is to unite pro-life and pro-abortion Democrats behind lesser controversial ideas that her group contends will have a significant impact on abortion numbers.
"Both pro-life and pro-choice Democrats want to reduce the number of abortions, and this initiative will help us focus on what we have in common instead of our differences on the life issue," she said.

However, some of the plan's initiatives are already strongly opposed by pro-life or pro-abortion groups.Abortion advocactes have strenuously opposed parental notification on abortion and laws requiring abortion businesses to provide women with abortion alternatives information.Meanwhile, pro-life groups have opposed measures providing for taxpayer funding for contraception programs or requiring insurance providers to cover contraception.

Congressman Jerry Costello, an Illinois Democrat and Collin Peterson, a Democrat from Minnesota, have also signed off on the proposal. Former Democratic Party chairman candidate Tim Roemer has also offered his support.

Jackson Day Dinner with Senator John Edwards

Senator John Edwards will be keynoting this years Jackson Day Dinner on June 5th at the Hermitage. Hopefully by then, the effort to recruit Congressman Davis to take one more step in a long journey of public service to our great state will have reached the goal. We would be very pleased to hear Congressman Davis announce his candidacy!

The reality of the situation is such that we can't afford to be without a credible candidate past June. There is simply too much work to be done. We will keep our fingers crossed and hope to hear from Congressman Davis at the Jackson Day event -if not sooner!

WE ARE FOR REAL

Today, we emailed our launch to a number of media and political outlets because it is time for the traditional southern Democrat to have his...Or this case case, her say.

We are all tired of the right wing Bible thumpers trying to tell us how we should vote. In fact not until the 1980's were the "Christian right" even out of their basements. Tennessee needs a new kind of leader, a real southerner with real ideas. That man is Congressman Lincoln Davis.

To get elected one does have to be a made up this or an invented that. The traditional conservative Democrat is 150 years in the making. We need to say what we believe and mean what we say. Success will be on election day. Lincoln Davis is his own success story.

Congressman Lincoln Davis was elected to represent the 4th District in November 2002 because he shares the same values as those he represents. He promised to uphold those values in Washington and work in a bi-partisan fashion for the betterment of his constituents.
Raised in rural Fentress County, Congressman Davis was taught the importance of hard work, helping your neighbors, being trustworthy, and was instilled with a strong sense of principles, which he still holds today.

First elected mayor of Byrdstown in 1978, he went on to serve two terms in the Tennessee House of Representatives. His second term in the state Senate was cut short when elected to represent the 4th District in Congress. In the state legislature Davis supported pay raises for teachers and state employees, long-term care for senior citizens, character education in schools, and domestic violence legislation.

Now in the U.S. House, Davis is working to create economic development opportunities for the district, curb meth abuse, increase flexibility in veterans' benefits, implement homeland security safeguards, and fight for a balanced budget.

Family is extremely important to Congressman Davis. He married his high school sweetheart Lynda, an elementary school teacher, in 1963. Together they raised three daughters: Larissa, Lynn, and Libby.

Congressman and Mrs. Davis have five grandchildren: Ashton, Alexia, Andrew, Austin, and Adam.Congressman and Mrs. Davis live in Pall Mall, on property his family purchased from Fentress County native, WWI hero, and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Alvin C. York. They attend First Baptist Church in Byrdstown.

Congressman Davis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Tennessee Technological University.

He serves on the following committees: Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure; Committee on Science; and Committee on Agriculture. He is also a member of the Congressional Blue Dog Coalition, a group of 35 fiscally conservative House Democrats.

Kurita can't win, Clement is yesterday's news and Ford would rather chase skirts. Lincoln Davis is the right man at the right time.

Welcome to the Draft Lincoln Davis For Senate Blog.

Democrats in Tennessee have been fighting a losing battle. We weren't able to win the state for Gore and Bredesen isn't doing us any favors right now. Harold Ford Jr., son of another defamed Ford from Memphis wants a shot at Bill Frist's Senate seat, but he just isn't ready. He may be a living legend in urban Memphis, but he won't sell well outside of a few big cities.

Jr. was given his Congressional seat by his daddy. It is true is is a smooth talker and does well on TV, but he has a very "liberal" voting record. If Democrats want to win this seat we need to go to our roots and recruit a homegrown, conservative Democrat like Lincoln Davis. It is what we need to do to move forward in Tennessee and stop losing ground.

Republicans are saying whoever wins their primary is going to win the general election. That is true unless we can recruit somebody with the track record and personal appeal of Congressman Lincoln Davis. http://www.house.gov/lincolndavis/
